[Milwaukee, Wisc…] Milwaukee’s Alverno College will be closed on Election Day so that students, faculty and staff can cast their ballots and work at the polls.“They have no excuse not to vote,” Kelly Fay, Public Relations Specialist told the MacIver News Service on October 19th.
Alverno posted a press release on November 1st announcing the decision.
“This is the third time Alverno has offered poll worker training sessions on campus; the first was for the 2008 presidential election. Alverno was also closed on presidential Election Day in November 2008 to encourage all members of the Alverno community to be more involved in the political process,” the release reads.
The college recently received a grant to train 200 students as poll workers.
Alverno College is an all-women’s Catholic school in Milwaukee with an enrollment of 2,600 students.
