APPLETON — Despite concerns of active and retired teachers, Appleton’s Board of Education voted unanimously Monday evening to switch insurance carriers, which could save the district millions with higher deductible plans.
Since 2003, the district used the WEA Trust, a not-for-profit insurer that took a serious revenue hit in the wake of the state’s budget that eliminated collective bargaining powers for most state employees.
Appleton employees will have a new contract with UnitedHealthcare with lower premiums, but much higher deductibles.
