Milwaukee’s Independent Charters Out-Perform MPS Charter Schools in Sixth and Eighth Grade Reading and Math

Milwaukee’s 2R charter schools outscored both the MPS traditional school average and the MPS charter school average when it came to standardized test results in the 2012-2013 school year. These independent charter schools scored significantly higher than peer institutions when it came to math at these grades despite educating a similar number of economically disadvantaged students. Milwaukee Charter Schools Outscore MPS on New Tests and School Report Cards

The budget approved by the Joint Committee on Finance would expand the reach of independent charter schools in Milwaukee County by 2014. According to DPI data, that’s a big gain for the area’s economically disadvantaged students. MacIver News Service – Wisconsin improved 17 spots on the American Legislative Exchange Council’s Rich States, Poor States Economic Outlook Ranking from 32nd to 15th, the greatest improvement of any state over last year. Rich States, Poor States has been published since 2008. Education Takes a Back Seat to Sensitivity at MPS

Reforms Help DC Schools Outperform MPS

Efforts in the past two decades have been made to fix Milwaukee’s public schools, but these smaller reforms have made a limited impact when it comes to creating growth in the classroom. Other cities like D.C. have found a way to escape the clutches of low performance thanks to inciting big changes in their schools.
