Multiple state legislators are supporting a bill that would do away with Wisconsin’s prevailing wage law. Prevailing wage is a distorted policy that inflates the price of public projects in Wisconsin, thereby costing taxpayers more of their hard-earned money. Representative Bob Kulp (R-Stratford) and Senator Tom Tiffany (Hazelhurst) are circulating companion proposals aimed at eliminating the personal property tax in Wisconsin by 2020. The personal property tax is a levy on business equipment that is assessed in addition to real property taxes paid by businesses (property taxes paid on actual real estate).

In the wake of U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore’s advocacy for a major hike in the minimum wage on Monday, the MacIver Institute felt it was necessary to remind her of the research that shows it is anything but a good idea.
